Right Now, It’s Opals

I connect to different stones at different times in my life. And right now, it’s opals.

The connection feels intense, almost like fire in my veins. I can’t stop looking at them, working with them, thinking about what I want to make next.

Maybe it’s because no two are ever the same. Each one has its own color, fire, imperfections and personality. You can line up a dozen opals and every single one will give you something different.

I think I’ve always gravitated toward that kind of uniqueness. It shows up everywhere in my life. In the antiques I collect, the fibers and fabrics I love, the food I’m drawn to, the people I connect with. I’m much more interested in things with character than things that are perfect.

And opals have so much character.

These beautiful stones are sitting on my bench right now, waiting for me. I already have ideas swirling around for them, and I’ll be working on new one-of-a-kind pieces this week.
